This would be good to show students at the beginning of the year in a geography class to get them thinking about the purpose behind learning it and to get them interested! Google Earth is so cool...
I like that this video showcases three individuals in the 'real world' who absolutely use geography in their everyday lives. That really makes students sit up more and notice than some dry lecture about it. Google Earth is an awesome educational tool, for any grade level. My kindergarteners learn about "their place in the world" literally through an introduction to geography and they love this type of vivid visual. A few of my students also LOVE maps, and they would enjoy the map aspects of this tool. Thanks for the reminder!
I enjoyed the video and think it would be a good thing to show your students. I also think google earth is an awesome tool, and I often use it myself just to look at different areas of the world. I really enjoy geography and I think they need to bring back "Where In The World Is Carmen San Diego"! haha Watching this show and playing the game really got me into geography and with the technology they have today such as google earth it could make for a very interactive and informative tool for students.
My husband LOVEEEEEEEEEEESSSS the Google Earth application that he has on his phone. He constantly looks at it to check out his native country (Liberia) and "look at/walk" the grounds, etc. It's an amazing thing.
